Travel Journal: Northern Spain
Why we choose the places we travel & a quick overview of our trip so far
Despite the chaos that ensued in September, by the last week of the month we managed to find a slip in time to fall through, and made it across to the continent on a hastily rebooked Le Shuttle to Calais. What sweet relief it was to leave, knowing Neil’s mum was discharged back home for a gentler rehab after 2 weeks in hospital, and that we could still make something of the time we had set aside for an autumn adventure.
Until the day before, we were still unsure if we would go, or even where – joking it would be a toss up whether we would turn left or right out of Calais, but my heart was in the Spanish itinerary I’d made, and I suggested we trust in 2025 to take care of a return to Italy for a book-related trip next late-spring. As soon as we left it felt right, and keen to catch up at least some of the lost days from the original plan we drove a 9-hour day to Bordeaux instead of breaking the journey, such was the pull away from home and towards the mountains once more.
