Your observation that you do your best consolidating in water, really resonated with me. Having just read the wonderful There are Rivers in the Sky by Elif Shafak and her exploration of water in deep time, I feel a connecting of the dots with your work on geological deep time.
It sounds like you are sucking the marrow out of this experience Ruth, as I knew you would. There is something about your writing, no the way you curate your experience and then share through writing, that I find deeply inspiring. I am excited to see what emerges from this time spent away from the maddening distractions of this country xx

These two quotes made me smile and laugh; "She seems to say well, you asked for it.", "Am I confident about any of this residency business? No. Not in the slightest.". But you know that I always appreciate wit.
I'm glad that you're following different creative paths. It's amazing how encouraging others simply being there can be. Good luck with the fragments. I have the beginnings of another poetry collection brewing and new watercolours have arrived so will (maybe) be joining you in the spirit of a residency on my week off xx
